**New Parents - On the weekly emails and calendar, you will see these acronyms next to events, as a new parent, these will not concern you. Focus on the Weekly troop Meetings, and the first three campouts are AOL (more on that below,) Shooting Campout, and Summer Camp. Also, a Court of Honor or "Green and Gold" will be once a quarter. (Green and Gold is the celebration of scouting's birthday in February. The others are Court of Honor. )
Commonly Confused
AOL - "Arrow of Light" This is a campout the troop holds every spring as a first campout for the new members joining our troop as Boy Scouts. It's a really neat introduction, and as a new parent, you absolutely do want to go and attend!
(To clarify) The Existing Boy scouts go down Friday and set up.
The new Boy scouts come down Saturday AM and set up camp and stay the night.
All Parents are welcomed and requested to come down Saturday and hang out. There will be a "new parent" discussion during the day. Food is provided. AND/OR There is a ceremony Saturday night. (After dark) That is neat and all parents and family are welcomed to attend. BUT, only parents who are council members of the troop may camp and stay Saturday night.
Everyone goes home in the AM
OA - "Order of the Arrow" - If you are a new parent, and don't know what this means, don't worry about it as a priority. If you see a campout with this, "OA" it does not pertain to you. After you get started with Boy Scouts, this is a really neat thing to learn and try and achieve. However, you must be a member before you can go on these OA campouts, so for now, just know it's not for new scouts/parents. Here is more, if interested. https://oa-bsa.org/about
